When my sister Saill adopted Sir Lancelot Buttercup at her local shelter she didn’t notice the word “Tinkerer” written in Sharpie underneath his name. She just fell in love with his personality. But immediately after he settled in Saill came home to her old radio disassembled and Sir Lancelot batting around the pieces.
“Lancelot! You put that back together right now!” Saill exclaimed.
But he only stared up at her and then calmly wandered over to his favorite pillow, lifted his leg over his head and began cleaning himself.
“I love Lancelot.” she told me later “But he does this constantly. I think I just need to go back to the shelter and find a pet that has a talent for putting things back together.”
When pressed for what kind of pet she would be interested she sighs and says,”A rabbit, a dog, I don’t care as long as they’re handy enough to fix Sir Lancelot’s messes.”
She looks over at Sir Lancelot Buttercup sleeping on the window sill and smiles. “He did put my bike chain back on yesterday. That’s a step in the right direction.”
